Christmas decor trends 2026 at home: garland draped over an arched mirror, lit pencil trees and a wood console with a lamp

Christmas decor trends 2026 come down to seven things: velvet ribbon and bows, traditional brass and red, deep greens, vintage-inspired ornaments, small trees, a little tinsel and lots of realistic greenery. I'm using most of them in our home this year, in warm neutrals and without spending a lot. Here's each trend, how I use it and the affordable pieces I've linked.

1. Christmas decor trends 2026 start with velvet ribbon and bows

Ribbon is the trend I'd start with, because it does so much for so little. Our living room tree is trimmed with brown velvet ribbon looped between gold ornaments and warm lights, and it makes the whole tree look full and finished. Wired ribbon holds its shape in the branches, and brown feels warmer than classic red. If you want a richer, more traditional look, burgundy velvet works the same way. Both of these are from Amazon, and more of my favorites are in my Amazon Christmas decor top 10. My step-by-step is in how to put ribbon on a Christmas tree.

2. Traditional brass and red, my cozy version

Traditional Christmas is having a moment: brass, red, florals and classic shapes. I keep it cozy rather than formal. Sculptural brass candlesticks are my easiest way in. I paired ours with our wood coffee table, and they bring so much warmth and dimension to our holiday living room, especially at night with all the tree lights glowing. These are the Birch Lane Langer candlesticks from Wayfair. For the table, a dark floral toile tablecloth from Target gives you that traditional feel without going full red and green. More table ideas are in my hostess gift guide.

3. Deep greens everywhere

Deep green is everywhere this season, from forest to olive, and it's so easy to live with because it reads like greenery. In our Christmas bedroom, olive green velvet bedding, textured quilts and a chunky knit blanket make the prettiest layered winter look, and the pre-lit wreaths from Quince add so much warmth. If you'd rather not change your bedding, a lit wreath is the simplest way to bring the green in. Quince's Fraser fir wreath is 24 inches and pre-lit with warm white LEDs. The whole room is in my Christmas bedroom.

4. Vintage-inspired ornaments

Vintage-inspired Christmas decor is a big part of our home this year, and mercury-look ornaments are the easiest way to get it. They have that softly aged, reflective finish that looks collected instead of brand new. One year we went with a burgundy and champagne gold palette on our family room tree, and the ornaments from Darby Creek Trading added the perfect luxe touch. These champagne gold glitter ones measure 4 inches and come in a set of four. I'd mix them with plain gold balls in a few sizes so the tree doesn't feel matchy.

5. Small trees in every room

Small trees are one of the biggest looks this year, and they're the easiest way to make a corner, entry or console feel like Christmas. The pre-lit pencil Christmas trees in our living room are Amazon finds, and this 6-foot Norfolk pine is slim enough to tuck beside a console or the end of a sofa. For a tabletop, I linked the My Texas House glass trees from Walmart, which come in 8, 9 and 12 inches. I'd group two or three heights together so it looks intentional. For the main tree, see how I decorate a neutral Christmas tree.

6. Tinsel, the champagne way

Tinsel is back, but I'd skip the silver strands and go for champagne gold tinsel ornaments instead. They add a little sparkle and still feel warm and vintage, especially next to brown ribbon and greenery. This 9-piece Wondershop set from Target is the one I linked with our ribbon tree. Tuck a few deeper into the branches so they catch the lights, rather than hanging them all on the tips.

7. Lots of realistic greenery

Realistic garland is still the base of so many of my Christmas looks. I draped it around our oversized arched mirror, and it makes that little corner feel so full, natural and cozy without adding a ton of decorations. One of the Darby Creek garlands I linked with it is the Deluxe Real Touch Winter Greenery, a mix of cypress, Norfolk pine and pine that comes in 6- to 24-foot lengths. For a mantel, I walk through it in how I decorate a Christmas mantel with garland, and I compared my favorites in the faux garlands I use.

Frequently asked questions

What Christmas colors are in for 2026?

Deep green, burgundy, brown and cream, with brass and champagne gold as the metals. I'd pick one warm neutral base and repeat two or three of those colors around the room so it feels cohesive.

Are neutral Christmas trees still in style?

Yes. A neutral tree is the easiest base for this year's trends: add brown velvet ribbon, champagne ornaments and a little brass, and it feels current without feeling themed.
